In an emotional video, Russell Wilson recounts his decade-long career as the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, thanking fans for the memories.
March 8 is a day that will live in Seahawks infamy, as the team released its offensive and defensive pillars on the same day.
Quarterback Russell Wilson was traded away to the Denver Broncos on March 8, 2022, while middle linebacker Bobby Wagner were released later that day. The monumental move made Seattle’s decision to rebuild all too clear, but after the initial shock wore off, both Wilson and Wagner took the time to thank the community that has embraced them for a decade.
On March 11, Wilson shared a video encapsulating his cherished time as the signal-caller in Seattle.

At the beginning of the video, a rookie Wilson discusses his excitement to play in Seattle as the team’s new franchise quarterback.
“I was extremely excited for my name to be called for this football team and win and do a lot of great things,” Wilson said.
Wilson went on to become the most decorated quarterback in Seahawks history, kicking off his career with two back-to-back Super Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl ring in the 2013 season.
The video showcases incredible plays Wilson has made throughout his career, as well as his relationship with fans. Wilson, who was named the 2020 Walter Payton Man of the Year, also spoke on why his Why Not You Foundation has meant so much to him over the years.
“My dad used to always tell me, ‘Son, why not you?’ Now, I wake up every day enthused and inspired to impact people’s lives.”
When thanking the NFL for the Walter Payton Award, Wilson states that, “Love is patient; love is kind. Love changes things.”
Although his break from Seattle is a heartbreaking move for 12s, Wilson’s passion for the team transformed the Seahawks into a perennial playoff team in the 2010s.
