Penn’s Landon Hall has passed all of his tests...

Landon Hall prides himself by trying to stay one step ahead of the competition.

“My greatest strengths on the football field are my accuracy and my anticipation,” explained the Penn High senior quarterback. “My accuracy is elite. I am able to put the ball anywhere on the field whenever I want. My anticipation is next level and that comes from me understanding the defenses so well.

“I know what the defense is gonna do before they even do it. That really helps me be able to anticipate and throw my receivers into tight windows or even throw them open.”

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound right-hander proved to be a man of his words during the 2025 campaign by going 118-of-168 (70 percent) for 2,297 yards with 26 touchdowns and only four interceptions to lead the Kingsmen (11-1) to a Northern Indiana Conference crown as well as a Class 6A sectional title.

“I first got involved in football when I was in pre-school,” Hall recalled. “I immediately fell in love with the quarterback position and how much goes into being a great quarterback.

Although Hall has been a fixture as a signal caller since he was a youngster, this coming fall will only be his second go-around with the black and gold.

After displaying his talents at Lakeshore High School in Stevensville, Michigan during his freshman and sophomore campaigns, he found himself having to adjust to a different environment surrounded by new teammates.

As it turned out, it proved to be a smooth transition in all areas.

“Coming to Penn was the best decision me and my family have made,” Hall said. “Penn has helped me excel in so many ways on and off the field. The biggest difference between Penn and Lakeshore is the strength and conditioning program. Fully buying into Penn’s college level strength program helped me make drastic physical changes to my body and turned me into a unit.”

It also didn’t take long for him to become one of the leaders on the “Gold Rush” offense.

“My relationship and chemistry with my receivers is great,” explained Hall, “Being able to play with (senior) Buddy Hurley (50 receptions for 1,048 yards with 11 touchdowns), since I was in sixth grade makes a big difference. I understand when he is going to be out of his break or when he is going to sit in a hole.

“My chemistry with (junior) Mason Bernacki (44 receptions for 877 yards with 11 touchdowns) is great too. He is a speedster so being able to give him nice catchable runners balls makes a big difference.”

His positive attitude and tireless work ethic has not gone unnoticed by the Penn coaching staff.

“Landon is one of our captains this year,” explained Penn head coach Pete Riordan. “He is consistently organizing guys to get together and work out routes, and he helps our younger quarterbacks as well. All of these things together along with his competitive drive make him a special player.

“He has a very strong arm and incredible accuracy. He’s worked very hard on improving his speed and decision-making process to pull the ball down and run for it if necessary.”

Landon has great admiration for his bosses as well.

“My relationship with (offensive coordinator) Coach (Coley) Moore and Coach Riordan is great,” Hall said. “I hit it off fast with both of them early on in the summer last year. With Coach Moore, we both understand the game very well and are constantly bringing new ideas to the table. I trust him to call them correct plays for each and every situation and he trusts me to execute the plays perfectly and keep the chains moving.”

He also credits his family for helping him establish his strong bond for the gridiron.

“My greatest influence growing up was definitely my dad,” explained Hall. “He taught me the most important pieces of being great. He taught me what hard work and discipline was, and how I needed to apply that to everything I did whether that was sports or academics.”

In addition to taking part in off-season workouts, he also found getting involved in other activities to be helpful in his preparation.

“This past year, I ran track for the second time,” Hall said. “This helped me make tremendous strides in becoming a better athlete. This will show on the field this upcoming season.

“One thing that I have greatly improved is my speed and playmaking ability. I think that is going to be a major change that will make me even more of a threat to the defense.”

All of his activities are not just confined to the playing field.

“Outside of athletics, I love to fish and hunt,” Hall said. “It helps to keep me grounded in nature and allows me to spend time with some of my close buddies.”

Hall also definitely doesn’t lack confidence when it comes to his future endeavors.

“I plan to play football in college and dominate,” said Hall, who has a 3.95 grade-point average and plans on majoring in business. “Some areas I want to continue to polish is my playmaking ability. I want to get to the point where I am the best runner on the team. I will always be a pass first quarterback, but having the ability to tuck it and take it 70 yards to the house is something I want to continue to excel at.

“After I’m done playing, I plan on becoming a football coach and dominating defenses as an offensive coordinator.

Before taking the next steps in his career, though, he has some unfinished business to attend to.

“We want to win state,” Hall said. “This is the team’s goal for this year and everyone is rallying around it. We have the players and the coaching staff to be able to get it done. All I gotta say is Indiana better watch out for us. We coming for it all this year.”

The first hurdle in Penn’s quest for its sixth state championship will be on August 21 when the Kingsmen welcome Valparaiso to Everwise Freed Field for the season opener.
