Lovie Smith Promoted to Houston Texans Head Coach

NFL Super Bowl – The Houston Texans will be promoting Lovie Smith from defensive coordinator and “associate head coach” to actual head coach. Nothing official yet, but it’s been reported to all the major reporters. Who knows how long this will last. David Culley lasted a year, and the Texans front office is a mess, and it was clear that they really wanted to hire Josh McCown. I don’t know if they thought that McCown wasn’t ready or maybe thought they would get a lot of pushback for hiring someone with no NFL coaching experience, especially after they were mentioned in Brian Flores’ lawsuit for firing Culley. If they’re serious about McCown as a future head coach, maybe they’ll get him on the staff somehow to get some experience. As for Lovie Smith as head coach, well, he was at least a good defensive coordinator last year, getting something out of a Houston defense with questionable talent. And don’t forget, he’s brought a team to a Super Bowl before. But his time in Tampa Bay in 2014-2015 did not go well, and it seemed a little bit like the game might have passed him by.
