Just Short: Cardinals Can't Top Seahawks Or…

The chance was there, with the scoreboard showing the Rams and 49ers headed to overtime and the Cardinals battling in a close game with the Seahawks at State Farm Stadium.

An NFC West title was there to take.

But then Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny broke off a 62-yard touchdown scamper, essentially ending the Cardinals’ hopes in a 38-30 regular-season ending loss to their division rival.

The result was anything but moot because the 49ers completed their comeback with a 27-24 win. Not only do the Cardinals miss a chance at a division title, but now must go to Los Angeles (12-5) next week to open the playoffs.

It was a tale of two defenses between the Cardinals (11-6) and the Seahawks (7-10). The Cardinals moved the ball at times but couldn’t keep the pass rush off quarterback Kyler Murray (sacked five times) and on the other side of the ball, gave up 190 rushing yards to Penny.
