Fred Warner is going to be heavily criticized for an absolutely unnecessary hit on Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.
The NFC Championship Game got a little chippy when one member of the San Francisco 49ers decided to take a shot at Matthew Stafford. Fred Warner, a linebacker for the 49ers, went out of his way to hit the Rams quarterback as he wasn’t paying attention.

This hit is going to be widely criticized and for pretty good reasons. Warner absolutely wrecks Stafford and he does it all while the quarterback isn’t looking. Warner sought out an opportunity to crash into Stafford while he wasn’t paying attention.
That’s completely and totally uncalled for and it’s something that should absolutely be examined by the NFL.
There’s no reason for Warner to go out and collide in Stafford in this moment. While it seems like Stafford was able to get up fine and return to play, this whole situation just comes entirely too close to being an instance where someone was hurt because of something incredibly unnecessary.
It remains to be seen if the NFL will step in and punish Warner for this hit on Stafford. There’s nothing clean about this play and the NFL has to consider player safety when looking at this.
