Even with Kyler Murray set to return after the bye, the Cardinals made a change on the quarterback depth chart.

After the news leaked Monday, the team officially signed Trace McSorley from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad on Tuesday, and released No. 3 quarterback Chris Streveler.

McSorley appeared in three games over his two-plus seasons in Baltimore, completing 3-of-10 passes for 90 yards and a touchdown. The former Penn State quarterback was the Ravens’ sixth-round pick in 2019. The 6-foot, 200-pounder was elevated to the active roster this past weekend by Baltimore as a backup once starter Lamar Jackson was deemed too ill to play.

Streveler was signed as a free agent early in the 2020 offseason. His only extended play that season despite being Murray’s backup all season was in the finale at Los Angeles against the Rams. Murray suffered an ankle injury, and Streveler came in. He struggled before Murray finally returned, and the Cards lost, 18-7, and missed a playoff berth. In that game Streveler was 11-for-16 for 105 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Streveler also played 22 snaps two weeks ago against the Panthers after Colt McCoy left with an injury. In that game he completed 6-of-9 passes for 36 yards.

The hope was that Streveler would evolve both as a reserve quarterback and a player who could perform elsewhere on the offense and special teams, a la Taysom Hill in New Orleans. But neither role developed very far.

The Cardinals also re-signed long snapper Beau Brinkley and running back Tavien Feaster to the practice squad. Both had been cut from the active roster on Monday.
