Cardinals Balancing Health, Need To Stay Sharp In…
3 min read
Like most teams, the Cardinals enter their 2021 regular-season finale not completely healthy.
Running back Chase Edmonds, cornerback Marco Wilson, wideout Rondale Moore, defensive lineman Jordan Phillips — essential players to their success – won’t play on Sunday because of injuries.
Overall, though, coach Kliff Kingsbury said the Cardinals have not considered resting any starters Sunday to help avoid that problem.
“We’re playing to win the game and continue to improve,” Kingsbury said. “We feel like we have a lot of room for improvement heading into the postseason, and we’re trying to build some momentum.”
The full injury report is due out later Friday.
Running back James Conner, who has practiced limited all week and has missed the past two games with a heel problem, is a game-day decision to play. The Cardinals still have a chance to win the NFC West, but need a victory for that chance to remain.
One of the areas the Cardinals would like to improve is their performances at State Farm Stadium, a place they have suffered four consecutive losses this season. Their last home victory came October 24th against Houston.
Quarterback Kyler Murray said he doesn’t worry about health heading into the playoffs, though he would love to see everyone healthy. His focus is to help the Cardinals win on Sunday while avoiding a spot in Covid protocols, something Murray has successfully done this season.
“I mean, that’s ideal for keeping everybody healthy going into the playoffs,” Murray said. “But for me, I don’t think about getting hurt. I go and play my game and try to stay as safe as possible while doing it.”
