The Pittsburgh Steelers made a few transactions on Thursday ahead of their final training camp practice of 2019.

Signed to the roster on Thursday were tight end Micky Crum and outside linebacker Christian Kuntz. To make room for those two players the Steelers waived outside linebacker JT Jones and cornerback Jermaine Ponder.

Crum played in 39 games during his career at Louisville and registered 45 receptions for 493 yards and four touchdowns He went undrafted this year. The Steelers needed another tigh end on their roster due to Christian Scotland-Williamson and Zach Gentry both dealing with injurers this week. It appears as though those two players might sit out the team’s second preseason game that wuill take place Saturday night.

Kuntz, who spent time on the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, plays both long snapper and outside linebacker. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Duquense in 2017 with the New England Patriots. He played linebacker in college and was a part of three Northeast Conference (NEC) championship teams (2013, 2015 and 2016). He is the only Duquesne player in the school’s history to earn All-America honors three times and finished his collegiate career with a school record 30.5 sacks and 248 tackles en route to earning two NEC Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Jones was signed back in early April after previously playing in the AAF with the Atlanta Legends. Ponder was signed to the roster a little more than a week ago due to the team being short healthy cornerbacks.
