The New York Giants might finally be getting some respect from the wagering community. As per bovada.lv, the Giants are consensus 3-point favorites over the Bengals in Cincinnati on Thursday.
Big Blue has come out firing on offense this preseason, averaging a league-high 31.5 points per game over the first two weeks. They are second in yards gained per game (412.5) and are tops in passing yards and touchdown receptions.
All of that with a supposed ‘washed-up’ starting quarterback, a projected first-round bust backing him up and no receivers to hang their hat on. And may we mention that Saquon Barkley, Evan Engram and Sterling Shepard, the Giants’ top three producers on offense, have not played a single snap this summer.
Their defense is still very much a work in progress, but could be turning the corner. They are currently ranked third overall and first against the run, a huge turnaround from where they left off last season.
In 2018, the Giants were favored in the regular season just three times: Week 11 at Tampa Bay (-3), Week 14 in Washington (-3) and the Week 17 meaningless jaunt at home against the Cowboys where they were 7.5-point faves. The Giants were 5-11 straight-up last season, but were 8-7-1 against the spread.
