With the NFL trade deadline two weeks away, teams are reportedly eyeing Jets defensive lineman Leonard Williams.
ESPN reported on Sunday that multiple teams have reached out to the Jets about Williams’ availability. The report said the Jets are not interested in trading Williams at this time. The trade deadline is Oct. 29 at 4 p.m.
Williams was asked about the report after the Jets’ 24-22 win over the Cowboys.
“I wouldn’t say it makes me uneasy,” he said. “You see the best players in the league get traded and it’s not like it’s a personal thing. It’s just the way the business is and I can’t take anything personal. That’s why I can’t really focus on it because I can’t really control it. The best thing I can control is my play and wherever I end up, just focus on that.”
Williams is scheduled to become a free agent after this season, giving the Jets a decision to make on whether or not to commit to him long term. If they feel they are not going to re-sign him, it would be smart to try to get something for him now.
Williams has failed to live up to the expectations put on him when he was drafted No. 6 overall in 2015 and hailed as the best player in the draft. He does not have a sack this season.
