A normal guy would have been shut down for the season, but New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones isn’t a normal guy.

Head coach Joe Judge revealed on Monday evening that Jones played through some “severe” injuries in 2020 — injuries that would have ended the season for most other players.

Instead, Jones missed just a single game, although he was clearly hampered in a few others.

“Daniel’s the last guy that’s gonna use anything as an excuse,” Judge said during an appearance on ESPN New York’s The Michael Kay Show. “What I would say about the injury last year — it was much more serious than maybe people thought on the outside.

“I would say … that 90% of the players in the league who would’ve had that injury, including quarterbacks, would have been on IR for the remainder of the year. That’s just the reality of it. It was much more severe than maybe he allowed people to know, or the information that was put out there.”

Judge also dared point out another glaring reality that usually leads to a heated anti-Danny Dimes tirade… Jones was in his second pro system in as many years, did not have an offseason with the coaches and was essentially thrown to the wolves without a preseason.

“Let’s be honest about this guy — there’s no excuses, but he didn’t have a spring to work in the new system, he didn’t have any preseason games to get a feel for and build chemistry with his teammates. We did the best we could in training camp, and ultimately, it took a little more time to acclimate an entire team to a new offense,” Judge said.

In the end, Judge and the remaining coaching staff were “pleased” with the progress Jones made in the face of relentless adversity. And what really sold them is that Jones didn’t make an excuse or express a gripe. Not once.

“He earned a lot of people’s respect,” Judge said.
