Philadelphia Eagles Sign ER Haason Reddick

NFL Offseason – The Philadelphia Eagles filled one of their biggest needs and signaled that they’re going to be aggressive in building upon their surprising 2021 success by signing former Carolina Panthers edge rusher Haason Reddick to a three-year contract, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Reddick, who grew up in greater Philly (he attended Haddon Heights high school in South Jersey) recorded 11 sacks and (per Sports Info Solutions) 25 hurries and 46 pressures for the Panthers last year. Reddick recorded 12.5 sacks, 24 hurries and 46 pressures for the Cardinals in 2020. Reddick started his Cardinals career as an all-purpose linebacker but is most effective as a roving edge rusher.

Josh Sweat and defensive tackle Javon Hargave led the Eagles with 7.5 sacks each in 2021. Sweat signed a long-term extension last season, but fellow edge rusher Derrick Barnett recorded just two sacks in 15 starts in 2021 and is expected to leave as a free agent if anyone really wants him. (Sorry, that was snippy. Barnett was just a bit of a disappointment as the 14th overall pick). The Eagles ranked just 28th in the NFL in adjusted sack rate and have lacked a pure speed rusher off the edge for many years.

Reddick’s arrival may alter the Eagles draft strategy. The Eagles possess the 15th, 16th and 19th picks in the 2022 draft and were expected to select at least one edge rusher in a deep class. The Eagles’ top priorities now include a wide receiver to replace Jalen Reagor in the lineup, another wide receiver to replace Jalen Reagor on the roster, some defensive backs and just about any position except linebacker, because we all know that ain’t happening.

The Eagles are also rumored to be involved in Fletcher Cox trade talks. Trading the (slowly fading) six-time Pro Bowler would free up some much-needed cap space, while Reddick’s arrival will soften the blow of Cox’s departure.

The Panthers also released A.J. Bouye and edge rusher Morgan Fox on Monday and may just be planning to trade for Deshaun Watson and ask him to play six positions at this point.

Haason Reddick Overall Impact: The Eagles have many more questions to answer and much more work to be done, but they are moving forward while the Dallas Cowboys move backwards and the Washington Commanders move wentzways.

Haason Reddick Fantasy Impact: Reddick is a double-digit sack producer in IDP leagues and one more reason not to trust the Commanders or Giants quarterbacks.
