NFL Moves Cardinals-Cowboys To Later Time Slot

In case there was any uncertainty the Cardinals’ road trip to play in Dallas on Jan. 2 was going to be a big game, the NFL and Fox made sure that was emphasized on Thursday morning.

The matchup, originally scheduled for a noon kickoff in Dallas (11 a.m. in Arizona), was moved to the late afternoon window of 3:25 p.m. kickoff in Dallas (2:25 p.m. in Arizona.) It has the chance to be the network’s top game, meaning it could end up with the No. 1 announcer team of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman and go out to the majority of the country. Fox also has the Rams at Ravens in that time slot on Jan. 2.

While some fans had held out home the game might be flexed to NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” NFL rules prevent any early kickoffs — such as Cardinals-Cowboys originally — to be moved to the primetime game.

The Sunday night game that week is Vikings at Packers.

The Cardinals traveled to Dallas in 2020, beating up the Cowboys, 38-10. With two games for each team to play before this year’s matchup, the Cardinals (10-3) and the Cowboys (9-4) are each vying for playoff seeds. As of now, the Cards are No. 3 in the NFC, behind both the Packers (10-3) and Buccaneers (10-3). The Cowboys are No. 4.
