Here are five players whose stock is soaring sky-high following the Dallas Cowboys preseason win over the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday night.
The Dallas Cowboys traveled to sunny Honolulu, Hawaii in order to face off against the Los Angeles Rams at Aloha Stadium Saturday night in preseason action. The Cowboys would end up winning the exhibition, 14-10.
Following the Cowboys’ second preseason contest of the year, here are five players whose stock is absolutely soaring following a stellar performance against the Rams.
Justin Phillips, LB
Coming into the preseason, there was a lot of talk about an undrafted rookie linebacker in training camp. Said player was Nebraska’s Luke Gifford. After an impressive performance in the Cowboys first preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers, which included an interception, Gifford suffered an high-ankle injury and is believed to be sidelined for a month.
Almost instantly, fellow undrafted rookie linebacker Justin Phillips started to shine in Gifford’s place. Tied for the team lead in tackles with a combined five versus the Niners, Phillips followed up his preseason debut with a breakout performance against the Rams in Hawaii. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy racked up seven total tackles and an interception of his own Saturday night.
It will be tough for both Gifford and Phillips to crack the talented linebacker depth chart in Dallas. But for the Cowboys, it’s a very good problem to have.
